Tom “Warrior” Fischer has just posted the following update:

“I just returned from Berlin, where I continued work on the design of “Only Death Is Real”, the illustrated history of Hellhammer and early Celtic Frost, with the book’s layouter, Hendrik Hellige. If all goes according to plan, the book will be in print in 2009 as a large-format and very detailed biography covering the years 1981 to 1985. It also features artwork, flyers, memorabilia, and hundreds of photos, most of which have never been published before. The material we have compiled during the past three and a half years is simply stunning. Even if one is only marginally interested in Hellhammer and Celtic Frost, the book will provide a truly unique glimpse at the early days of extreme metal. ”

Judas Priest Are Back

live

Following on from the last post Ozzy Osbourne, highlighting the musical prowess or the ultimate metal rocker, Ozzy Osbourne, often dubbed the Lord of Darkness himself, we move on to another heavy metal band that took the music to new heights in the late 1970s and early 80s to necome one of the biggest heavy metal bands of that era, Judas Priest.

Judas Priest are back on the live arena once again and this year they have several live performances lioned up.

One of these is at the Cricket Wireless Pavilion in Phoenix, Arizona on Thursday, August 28 at 5:30 pm. Judas Priest will then play next at the Glen Helen Pavilion in Devore, California on Saturday, August 30.

Originally formed in 1968, the heavy metal outfit, Judas Priest was put together in Birmingham, England by guitarist KK Downing and bassist Ian Hill. Several false stars followed until a stale line-up consisting of Downing, Hill, Rob Halford on vocals, and Glenn Tipton on guitar was achieved. They went through several drummers during their long history.

Judas Priest are considered as a major influence on the whole heavy metal music scene, which has earned them their nick name: “Metal Gods,” taken from the album track of the same name.

Here is a discography of their recordings from the beginning:

  • Rocka Rolla (1974)
  • Sad Wings of Destiny (1976)
  • Sin After Sing (1977)
  • Stained Class (1978)
  • Killing Machine/Hell Bent for Leather (1978)
  • British Steel (1980)
  • Point of Entry (1981)
  • Screaming for Vengeance (1982)
  • Defenders of the Faith (1984)
  • Turbo (1986)
  • Ram I Down (1988)
  • Painkiller (1990)
  • Jugulator (1997)
  • Demolition (2001)
  • Angel of Retribution (2005)

The British heavy metal outfit have been playing to huge audiences for three decades now and despite a lull in their appearances during the mid 1990s and the first part of this century, Judas Priest are back just as loud and brilliant as ever they were!

If you get a chance to go and see them live, do it!

Ozzy Osbourne

bands

Following on from the last post here at Metal Online Magazine Iron Maiden Live – Pine Knob Theater, where we took a look at an old Maiden concert, here we turn our attention on that master of mayhem Ozzy Osbourne!

Heavy Metal MagazineOzzy Osbourne fronted Black Sabbath back in the day. He did some media stunts that got him well and truly noticed, like he purposefully bit the head off a live dove in a meeting with Columbia Records executives. He accidentally bit the head off a real bat at a concert. He pissed on the Alamo. He was accused of subliminally manipulating kids to commit suicide.

Basically, Ozzy rules. During a career that spans more than thirty years as the lord of Hard Rock, he has amassed a veritable army of devoted fans.

His first two records, both of which include the talents of late guitarist Randy Rhodes, are timeless classics, packed with cut after cut of blazing, untouchable riffs. Though his subsequent material never quite reached the creative peak of these recordings, they are far from poor, and continue to amass new followers.

Anyone who needs further proof of Osbourne’s immeasurable contribution to rock needs only to look at the enormous success of the Ozzfest tour, whose entire lineup includes bands that could never have existed without their hero.

Ozzy is a legend in his own lifetime and not many people can say that about themselves!
